He was born on January 12, 1910, in the village of Esipovo, which is now in the Serebryano-Prudsky District of the Moscow Region, in a working-class family. He graduated from 7th grade school. After graduating from a vocational school in 1929, he worked as a turner at the Kalinin Factory in Moscow.
He joined the Navy in 1932. In 1933, he graduated from the Volsk Military Technical Aviation School. He worked as an aircraft technician. In 1936, he graduated from the Yeysk Naval Aviation School. He served in the 27th Separate Aviation Squadron of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet. As a navigator in an aviation unit, he participated in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940.
He joined the Great Patriotic War in June 1941.
He served in the Air Force.
Senior navigator of the 1st mine-torpedo Aviation Regiment of the 10th Aviation Brigade of the Air Force of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet, Captain. He took part in the first bombing raid on Berlin.
