Born in the village of Anchugovo, Kataysky District, Kurgan Region. In 1941, he completed one course at the Kopeysk Mining Technical School. He joined the army in June 1941. In 1942, he completed an accelerated course at the Chelyabinsk Tank School, and served at the front in August of that year. He was appointed commander of a tank crew and fought in the battles near Rzhev. He knocked out a Nazi tank, but was wounded himself. After hospitalization, he returned to the front. He spent his entire combat career with the 242nd Tank Brigade. He proved himself a brave warrior and a resourceful commander. For his skillful actions in the battles at the Kursk Bulge, during the crossing of the Dnieper, and in the battles to liberate Ukraine in the winter of 1944, he was awarded three military orders. By the summer of 1944, he commanded a company and particularly distinguished himself during the Lvov-Sandomierz Operation near Lvov.
